Stamping Up Video Tutorial | Happy Celebrations Card

Hey there my creative BFFs!

I have another video tutorial I want to share with you today, and it’s featuring Stampin’ Up!’s Happy Celebrations stamp set from the 2017 Occasions Mini Catalogue.

In today’s video tutorial I demonstrate a tie-die watercolor technique using Stampin’ Up!’s dye ink refills on hot press watercolor paper. You’ll also see me use my new Mini MISTI to align and stamp my images. I just bought it and was itching to try it out!

Now if you don’t have a MISTI – no sweat! You can easily stamp your images using the stamp-a-ma-jig and a double stamping technique.  If you’re not familiar with the double-stamping technique be sure to check out some of my past project videos as it’s a technique I use quite a bit with my stamp-a-ma-jig.

Watercoloring with Dye Ink Refills

Watercoloring with dye ink refills is a fun technique that gives you bright, vibrant results.  The color is SO concentrated that a little goes a long way, and it reacts beautifully with water!

The basic steps are as follows:

Stamp and emboss the image that you want to watercolor.  Why emboss? Simple – the raised edge of the embossing acts to keep the water and the watercolor contained within each specific area that you are watercoloring.

Apply a generous amount of water to the section you want to color.  If you were to apply your color directly onto your watercolor paper, it would absorb right in, and you wouldn’t get that beautiful tie-died effect we’re going for in this project. For the technique I am demonstrating today, we are letting the watercolors do the work of pulling and blending the colors. Now be sure to work on one letter at a time. After you have applied the water, pick up a little ink on the tip of your paint brush, and then touch it to several areas of the letter. Clean your brush and then gently pull the color until all areas are filled in.  When you watch the video you’ll see exactly how it’s done.

Lay the image flat to dry. Once you have finished watercoloring all your images leave your piece on a flat surface to dry.  You can speed up the drying process by heating it gently with your heat tool.
