What do you see when you look at me?
A woman of confidence and purpose, who knows what she wants and goes after it?
A woman who is focused and driven?
A woman of faith, who seeks to walk hand in hand with God?
A woman with a beautiful family and blessed life?
What do I see when I look at me?
Skin that is no longer as smooth as it once was.
Hair that is slowly greying.
A body that struggles with things that were once effortless.
Opportunities lost.
Chances that weren’t taken.
Mistakes that were made.
A thousand regrets.
A woman that has stopped taking risks…..
….and has forgotten how to dream.
What does God see when he looks at me?
A woman who is fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14)
A daughter of the King. (Galatians 3:26)
A woman who has been called by God and is destined to make a difference. (John 15:16, Ephesians 2:10, Matthew 5:14)
A woman of purpose. (Psalm 138:8, Romans 8:28, Proverbs 20:5)
A woman who is strong and can overcome whatever life throws her way. (Romans 8:37)
A woman who is loved….no matter what. (Romans 8:31-29)
And what is the reality?
It’s whatever I CHOOSE to believe.
P.S. The artwork is from an art journal page I created specifically to accompany this poem. I filmed my process and will be sharing the video tutorial with you soon 🙂
Wonderful post…………cannot wait to see the video!
Very insightful poem (post). Love your creations. I think you are a great inspiration.
Andrea I really enjoyed the video–even more so after reading your post. I subscribe to your YouTube channel and clicked over to your blog hoping to find a supply list. I’m interested in what type of pencil you used to sketch and was also wondering what you used to paint over the sketch.
Hi Renee, I have a couple of pencils I use – the softer grey one is a water soluble graphite pencil by Art Graf – but any water soluble graphite pencil will do. The darker one I use sometimes is a Stabilo All pencil in black. So that they become permanent I paint over them with liquitex fluid matte medium – essentially it’s to “set” them.
The poem expresses women’s thoughts and fears beautifully.
Thank you
You’ve probably expressed the thoughts of many of us…I know the words above are words *I* would have chosen. It resonates. The black&white technique with just the eyes showing color (eyes are windows into the soul) was a great decision I thought.
Hope you do more.
I love all things that make me think and feel. Your poetry and artwork are beautiful and very thought provoking. Thank you for sharing.
