Thank you for all your wonderful comments on last week’s Let’s Make It Over post! As I mentioned in that post – taking a card and making over cards using all Stampin’ Up! products, used to be a popular feature on my original Sunny Stampin’ Blog – and one that I loved doing.  In reading all your comments, I was reminded of why.
As crafters, it’s so easy to get caught up in the frenzy of new product releases – we fall in love with the things we see and then feel as though we just have to have “such and such” a product(s) in order to create beautiful cards. I have certainly been very guilty of this (as the contents of my stamp room will attest). Which is why I try to challenge myself on a regular basis to look at ways I can use the products I already own to re-create card designs I love.
If you’re a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator or you are in the business of teaching others how to make cards (either online or through in-person classes) –  in addition to “supply pressure” there’s also “idea pressure. In fact, one of the comments I regularly hear from Stampin’ Up! demonstrators and card-making teachers is what a challenge it can be to continually come up with new ideas.
That’s why today I wanted to expand on last week’s Let’s Make it Over card by showing you how I used that card as a Creative Jumpstart for today’s card.
Why? Because with today’s card I wanted to demonstrate how one idea can become a springboard for many more ideas.
I’ve created a video tutorial for you where I walk you through my thought process on how last week’s made-over card inspired this week’s card, and then I demonstrate how I created this card step by step.
There are several different techniques featured in this card including how to create a gradient stamped image and how to create a dimensional die cut.
So did that get your creative juices flowing? Hopefully it inspired you to look at all the cards you’ve created and think of ways that you can adapt the design to come up with a whole new look.
I’d love to hear about what your creative jumpstarts are – or if this is a totally new way of looking at your cards I’d love to hear about that too! Â Please leave me a comment in the comments section below this post.
I would also appreciate if you would hop on over to the brand new You Tube Channel I created for the Sunny Stampin’ Blog and subscribe to my channel and like my video  (if you liked it of course LOL!).
Great job as usual!
Great card tutorial. I love that geometrical look. I don’t have that particuliar stamp set, but I’m sure I have a set that I can use this technique with.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful ideas and tutorials.
They are a great help to a lot of like minded ladies. Love your work.
Thanks! Very informative – you explained each step beautifully!
Love the card & the great video! I have been thinking of purchasing this set & now u have sold me on it!
Loved it! Thanks.
Enjoyed both this and last week’s cards. Thanks.
Thanks Andrea, I think this is awesome. I enjoyed what you are showing us different ways and uses for what we already have in product . You are so right about getting caught up in the new items coming out each month. I know, I have/had gotten caught up in that I became unsure of what to do and still don’t t know what I have to even begin.Tomorrow I am going to start with what is on my desk and see what kind of card I come up with, I know their is plenty on the desk to start.
Thank You again Andrea.
That sounds like a great plan Zina. I would love to see what you come up with!
Great technique! Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful card, Andrea. Thanks for sharing your creativity with us. I don’t have that stamp but I have another one which will do to give the same overall feeling.
Andrea, it is so great to hear your wonderful voice again. You are an excellent teacher and I have missed you sharing your SU ideas. Yeah! Thank you so much.
Thanks Leslie! That is so kind of you to say. I just love working with my SU products.
Andrea, thank you so much for this idea of having projects for SU materials only. I love the opportunity to see how to be inpspired by one card to make another. It is my next step to try to create more and not only CASE. But it is not an easy leap to take. This kind of project surely helps!
I love this !!!
Hi Andrea! This is such a fun, easy and awesome card. Thank you so much for sharing and I’m looking forward to all of your wonderful ideas using Stampin’ Up! products only. Blessings to you!
Every time I learn something new. And for that I thank you very much!
Another great idea Andrea! I’m enjoying seeing you use SU products, as I have quite a few myself, and don’t always get inspired by examples in the catalogue. I really love how you utilise SU products to re-create other card designs too:)
Wow! Im hooked on your blog and inspired by the makeovers you’ve featured recently! You explain not only the techniques very well, but the thought process behind each makeover. It’s that thought process that’ll help us break the “creative block” and the cycle of always needing sets we don’t have to make cards we want to case. Great job! Thank you Andrea!
You’re very welcome Carol. I am so glad you find the “process explanation” helpful!
Beautiful card & video. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
Thanks for the insight in how to look at a sketch in a different way and in how to use the inks, T tool and border stamps.
Very clear and detailed! I love the gradient look. Nicely done. Thank you.
Love the dimensional die cut word. Have been using that technique in different ways on my own cards lately. The Misti stamp tool works perfectly for the ombre stamp effect too. I find it easier to use than the stamp-a-ma-jig. Nice card!
Hi Paula,
I have a MISTI too and I love it – you’re right that it makes techniques like this easier. The reason I didn’t use it in this card or on this blog – is because I am trying to keep the projects on this site 100% Stampin’ Up!. As I have many SU demos and SU exclusive customers that follow my work I try to show them ways they can use the tools that SU offers. Glad you like the card.
Thank you for the video. I have that stamp set and the dies. Now i will put them to use!!!
Beautiful card, not cluttered and very striking with the black die cut word and embossed message on black cardstock!!!
I love the card and the great step by step instructions. I seem to be following you everywhere! I joined the Papercrafter’s Library and am THRILLED with all of the wonderful content. It is an added bonus that you now have a dedicated Stampin Up site. I love all my stampin up products and am always looking for ideas on how to use them. Thank you.
Hi Pat – I am so happy you are enjoying the Paper Crafter’s Library content!
You always do such a beautiful job on your cards love the look.
Thanks again for this series. It is just what I need right now. I am looking at a box full of left over card kits from my past workshops and I need to use them but don’t want to make the same card as I did for the workshops. This is helping me look at them in a fresh way.
Pretty card and thanks for doing a video!! Love it!
Amazing, I love the thought behind using what you have vs. always buying more stamping items. Thank you for demonstrating how to use the tools also. I have the stamp-a-ma-jig, but have not learned how to use it correctly. Great tutorial.
This is a fun technique and paired with the black sentiment, well.. WOW is all I can say! A wonderful CAS card, a great tutorial and I have really missed your videos!
Inspirational as always. Great concept. Makes me look at my products in a new light.
Love the card! I’ve had the set for awhile but haven’t used it yet. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi Andrea – I’m so happy to see you doing SU videos again. I belong to PCL, too – but I’m a SU demo and I love getting SU inspiration from others!
Thanks so much for this second video, Andrea. I really enjoy listening to you, and the way you explain not only what you are doing, but also why you are doing it. Very enjoyable. I did “re-create” last weeks example, and used up almost one sheet of patterned paper from a pad that had been in my storage box way too long. : ) Hey, it’s a start!
Hi Linda – any start is a great start! There are plenty of times when I have used up a ton of card stock or patterned paper for one project too!
Loved the tutorial. Lots of great tips in there! Frustrating, as I’d like to give it a try but have no craft room, as it burned down in March – all those materials gone! You realize how much you have when you have nothing! Maybe I’ll be back in the swing in 2-3 months.
Oh Rachel, I am so sorry to hear that! What a loss. I hope everyone is okay and that you are able to get back on your feet quickly.
love it!
Love your “Let’s make it over” feature! Thank you for the wonderful inspiration.
Irrrm a sucker for this system!!! The nation’s excellent nice pay4you http://us.rd.yahoo.com/default/*http://m.show.pay4you.net/ go perfectly.
